As part of moves towards addressing the farmers and herders clashes in Ogun state, the need for the registration of cattle that move into Nigeria and the prevention of movement of cattle in Nigeria through ECOWAS has been stressed.

This call was made at the Ogun state government stakeholders parley on farmers/herders conflict in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

This meeting features major stakeholders, including leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, farmers and traditional rulers in the state.

In the last one week, the clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the troubled areas of Yewaland have claimed at least ten lives.

Some of the areas attacked by the Fulani herdsmen are; Eggua, Ketu, Igbooro, Imeko, Oja-Odan amongst others.

The inhabitants of these areas say the activities of the Fulani herdsmen have become unbearable, with a plea for peace to reign. The representatives of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association also pledge to continually sensitize their members.

Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun condemns the attack between farmers and herders in the state. He calls for collective action from all stakeholders.

His counterpart from Kano State, Abdulahi Ganduje notes that for peace to reign between farmers and herders, herdsmanship must change from the traditional to commercial herdsmanship.

Governors from the north who were at the parley include Bello Matawale from (Zamfara), Atiku Bagudu from (Kebbi), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sanni Bello, while Rotimi Akeredolu represented the South West governors.
