Senate adjourns security meeting till next week

The Senate has adjourned the security briefing by the Security Chiefs till next week Tuesday.

The Senators had last week summoned the Security Chiefs for a stakeholders meeting last week following the upsurge in the spate of kidnapping and other forms of insecurity across the country.

Galaxy tv reports that the Service Chiefs had been led into the Chamber by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreeed Lagbaja including the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Chief of Naval staff, Emmanuel Ogalla among others.

The Senate President, Godwill Akpabio while welcoming the Service Chiefs explained the reason for their summon stating that the Senate had been inaudated with series of motions and petitions on the state of insecurity across Nigeria like in Plataeu, Zamfara, FCT among others.
He added that the session was meant for the Security Chiefs to brief the Senate on efforts being made to curtail upsurge of the ugly development and for the Senators to make inputs.

The Senators however insisted that the National Security Adviser, Minister of State for Police Affairs, Director General of NIA, Minister of Finance, Minister of interior, Minister of State Defence, Chief of Defence Staff be in attendance for a robust security meeting.
Akpabio said all effort should be geared towards sustaining the interest of the People and help the administration of President Bola Tinubu achieve his intentions.
The Senators also agreed that the FCT is under serious threat.

The Senators however agreed on the postponement of the meeting since others listed to be in attendance are not around.
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio therefore announced the postponement of the security briefing till next week Tuesday.
