Police parade dismissed cop for car theft

Police Authority in Benue has arrested a notorious gang leader who has been responsible for most of the stolen cars parked at car parks, market places in the state and other neighbouring states.

The suspect, a 40-year-old Yakubu Mohammed, a dismissed police corporal was arrested this week with a stolen Toyota Camry, alongside master keys, plate numbers, and other items recovered from him belonging to people who were either robbed of their vehicle or stolen where it was parked.

The Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, who spoke to newsmen at Command headquarters said the suspect, was dismissed from the force in 2012, stating that he was arrested after due diligence and surveillance placed on for several weeks.

DSP Anene said the suspect will be charged to court after investigation.

Meanwhile the suspect, Yakubu Mohammed married with 7 children during interview denied the allegation saying the vehicles belong to his younger brother who was killed a month ago in Kogi.

The police public relation officer, however, called on the public to trust the police with information to help nip crime in the bud, in this festive season.
