Court adjourns Sowore’s trial to 5th December

Justice Ijeoma Ojkwu of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has adjourned the trial of Omoyele Sowore to the 5th and 6th of December, 2019 owing to controversy bordering on the statement of the prosecution witnesses earmarked to testify during the trial.

Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that at the resumed hearing Wednesday, Counsel to Sowore, Femi Falana told the Court that the defence team was never served with the witness statement that the prosecution is relying on to proceed with the trial.

The human rights advocate insists that there is a deliberate attempt on the part of the prosecution to ambush the defence team.

Mr. Falana also faulted what he termed a strange application to shield the witnesses in the matter without prior notification of the defence team.

On his part, the prosecution counsel, Hassan Liman disagreed with the position of the defence team, describing their action as a deliberate attempt to stall the trial.

The prosecution denied the notion that it is out to ambush the defence team.
