Five persons have been killed by gunmen suspected to be herders in Yelwata community in Guma local government area of Benue State

The five persons were attacked and killed on Wednesday afternoon while they were working on their farms.

An eye witness from the community who identified himself as Orduen in a phone call to journalists said the suspected herders invaded the community around 1:00pm on Wednesday and shot at people who were on their farms killing them.

Orduen, said the armed herders fled the bush immediately they wrecked havoc while those who sustained injured ran into the community, others were taken to the hospital.

The chairman of the local government, Mike Uba, confirmed the killing of five people and said that four people were injured.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue state Command, SP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident stating that officers have been deployed to the community.
