Special effects editor Katherine Chappell was mauled to death by a lioness at a safari game reserve in South Africa.

Katherine, who was in Africa raising money for a charitable organization that protects animals from poachers, was killed by the lioness as she took pictures during a drive through at the popular Lion Park, near Johannesburg, on Monday afternoon.

Her identity emerged as tour guide Pierre Potgieter, 66, told Daily Mail UK  how he had suffered a heart attack as he tried to save Miss Chappell's life.  

Katherine had film and television sucess, winning an award for an episode of popular television series Game of Thrones where she worked as an an editor.

Her last facebook update was a picture of her sipping a mojito from mason jar on a sunny day is Johannesburg.

She will be mourned by her parents, brother, sisters and long term partner
