Nigeria moves to shift gears as NES holds in Oct. 2019

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed has advocated a strategic shift to a competitive private sector as a panacea to meeting Nigeria's 2050 economic goals.


The minister made the advocacy at a joint media briefing with the Nigeria economic summit group held in Abuja. Monday.

She sued for stable macroeconomic conditions that will keep transaction cost low thereby encouraging savings, investments and job creation.

The minister’s comments are against the background of the forthcoming 25th Nigeria economic summit slated to hold in Abuja next month.

She said the summit will set a new agenda for Nigeria to usher in the 4th industrial revolution and make a strategic shift to a competitive private sector economy by 2050

Zainab said the summit which provides a timely opportunity for a national economic review will feature Startup Pitching Events which was introduced as a means of connecting startups registered in Nigeria.

She was optimistic that the move will provide a veritable platform for creating and expanding business opportunities in Nigeria

Zainab said the summit will focus on   Achieving rapid industrialization, Transforming education and Managing demography and further seek to discuss policy framework that is required to guarantee a globally competitive economy that is inclusive.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nigeria Economy Summit Group, Asue Ighodalo said, the summit has become an advocacy platform that serves as the point of convergence and reference for policy.

The theme of this year’s summit is: "Nigeria 2050: shifting gears’’ which emphasize the imperative for the country to move to a more robust competitive private sector economy.
