Anambra House Demands Immortalisation Of Dora Akunyili

The Anambra State House of Assembly has demanded the immortalisation of the former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and ex-Minister for Information and Communication, late Prof Dora Akunyili.

Speaker of the House, Mrs. Chinwe Nwaebili (APGA Ogbura 2) and other members made the demand during the plenary session based on the motion raised by a member representing Anaocha Constituency, Mr. Ebele Ejiofor.

Mr. Ebele Ejiofor (APGA Anaocha1) moved the motion of immortalising Akunyili as a distinguished and selfless servant of the nation on the floor of the House, and urged his colleagues to support it.

He said Akunyili was an internationally renowned Pharmacist, Pharmacologist, erudite scholar, seasoned administrator and a visionary leader, who championed the foremost national re-branding campaign titled “Nigeria; Good People, Great Nation.”

Ejiofor said that she meritoriously and honorably served her country in various capacities as Petroleum Trust Fund member representing Anaocha Local Government Area, Director –General NAFDAC, and Minister of Information and Communication .

He said that she was among the three delegates representing Anambra State in the ongoing National Conference.

“Despite these services rendered, she exhibited accountability, fairness, impartiality, transparency and high level of professionalism in her life time.”

Supporting the motion, Mr. Tony Muonagor (APC idemili North ) said it was timely and worthy as Akunyili showed high level of patriotism, honesty and transparency during her course of service to the nation.

According to him, “In Akunyili’s case, it was proved that honesty pays, her honest life shot her to limelight during Obasanjo’s regime.”

The lawmakers said that Akunyili was a rare gem, and should be immortalised as a way of encouraging hard work.
