Reps Resumes Plenary After 2 Weeks Break

The House of Representatives resumed plenary after two weeks break to commemorate three years of the 10th Assembly.

In line with tradition, the House adjourned sitting to mourn one of its members, Yaya Tongo, who died on June 12th at the age of 62 after a brief illness.

Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, announced the lawmaker’s passing upon resumption on Tuesday.

He described the death as a great loss to the National Assembly and urged members to remain united in supporting the bereaved family.

Lawmakers observed a minute of silence in honour of the late legislator.

Special prayers were also offered for the repose of his soul and for strength for his family.

The Muslim prayer was led by the Chief Whip, Usman Bello-Kumo, while the Christian prayer came from Rivers State representative, Cyril Hart.

The House, subsequently, adjourned plenary to the next legislative day as a mark of respect for the late lawmaker.
