Reps Frowns At FG’S Rehabilitation Of Terrorists
The House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to stop the rehabilitation of terrorists in Nigeria.
It also called for urgent action to dismantle criminal financial networks, following revelations that ₦2.23 trillion was paid in ransom in the last four years.
The development has gotten lawmakers worried as the House probes how the country’s financial system is being used to fund kidnapping.
Lawmakers said weaknesses in Nigeria’s financial intelligence system are fueling kidnapping and terrorism, warning of the risk of further Financial Action Task Force grey-listing.
They equally raised the alarm over the use of Point-of-Sale, PoS, operators, Bureau De Change and cryptocurrency platforms to launder ransom payments.
