Tricycle riders attack LASTMA official in Ikeja (Photos)

An operative of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has on Friday, March 31, been attacked by some angry tricycle riders in the Allen avenue area of Ikeja, the state’s capital.


 

The riders attacked the official after their patrol van allegedly hit a tricycle on the busy road.

According to reports, the van belonging to the traffic management authority had been trailing a tricycle from Ikeja to the Allen avenue are of Lagos. The unidentified and angry tricycle rider who claimed he had been working since 5 am, ran so as to avoid been arrested by the officials.

An eyewitness also revealed that the tricycle rider had disobeyed the traffic light in Ikeja and was avoiding the traffic officers who were determined to arrest him.

The officials, who were determined to arrest him, trailed the rider until their patrol van accidentally collided with his tricycle. The tricycle immediately lost control and fell by the road side while the angry rider pumped out of his tricycle and narrowly escaped his death.

After the rider escape, the LASTMA officials zoomed their van off but unfortunately one of the officials bounced out of the van to descend and arrest the erring tricycle rider.

Unfortunately, his aim of arresting the rider was defeated after the rider angrily descended on him and mercilessly dealt with him beyond recognition.

Simultaneously, other riders who witnessed the scene also joined in the rift. The LASTMA official was beaten until two mobile police officers came to his rescue.
