Senate Condemns Killings By Terrorists In Benue

The Nigerian Senate has Condemned in strong terms the recent attacks on Benue communities by Terrorists.

The Upper Chamber also called on the Federal Government and other authorities to put appropriate measures in place to forestall the reoccurrence of such an incident. These formed part of the resolutions of the lawmakers when the issue came up during Wednesday’s plenary at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The Senate says it is worried about the worsening spate of insecurity in the country after Senator Emmanuel Odende raised a point of order on the killing of over 50 people in Logo, Goma and Katsina-Ala areas of Benue State.
Contributing to the debate, immediate past President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan declared that the security architecture in the country has collapsed leaving Nigerians defenseless and frustrated.

Senator Lawan expressed concern that despite the huge budgetary allocations to defence, terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements are still having the upper hand.
Deeply worried, Senators say killings and violent crimes must be halted urgently.

After contributions from lawmakers, the Senate unanimously urged Service Chiefs including the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency deploy their men to flush out the criminal elements terrorizing parts of Benue state.
The Upper Chamber also urged the executive to invest in surveillance technology to effectively curb the activities of terrorists.
