Reps want deployment of scanners to nation's port

Reps want deployment of scanners to nation's port

The House of Representatives has bemoaned the ineffectiveness and the poor state of the nation's ports for effective service delivery.

The motion which came under matter of urgent public importance during Thursday plenary was brought to the floor by Honourable Nicholas Ossai.

The Lawmaker expressed worry over the poor state of ports operations which he said is costing the federal government huge revenue loss advocating the installation of modern scanners to enable easy and efficient service delivery.

Lawmakers who supported the motion expressed concerned that, in this age of modern technology, Customs in Nigeria still operate manually.

They said it is high time the Nigerian Customs stops using discretion and embrace technology to ease its operations.

But Hon Bamidele Salam said ulterior reasons are responsible for the problem.

The motion was adopted by a majority voice and the matter was referred to the Committee on Finance and Customs for further legislative action.
