Legal Practitioner Says Government Must Allow Rule of Law Prevail

The chairman of Kaduna state human rights committee, Barrister Mike Nwakama has said that Nigeria is not a banana republic and government must allow the rule of law to prevail.

He made this known during the plenary session of the Kaduna state judicial commission of inquiry into police brutality and other extrajudicial killings.

Barrister Mikel Nwakama said the right to peaceful protest is a constitutional right saying the duty of the police is the dictation, prevention and prosecution of criminal offenders and there is no law that prohibits peaceful protest in the country.

He, therefore, said he is not satisfied with the role the Nigerian police has been playing especially during a peaceful protest while linking it to the military era and lack of welfare.

Pascal Caino a victim of police brutality says he deserves justice while appealing to the Nigerian police force to learn how to respect the rule of law while carrying out their investigation.
