Jail break: Bayelsa government blames prison congestion

Acting governor of Bayelsa state, Rear Admiral John Jonah Rtd. has attributed the foiled jail break attempt by inmates of the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) at Okaka community in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, to the congestion of prisons nationwide.

The acting governor made the remark during an inspection tour of facilities at the prisons while also looking for means of collaborating with the authorities.

Fielding questions from newsmen after inspecting facilities, the acting governor spoke on the need for safer measures.

Speaking further, he commended security operatives as the prison’s comptroller narrated how six inmates were beaten to their game.

It will be recalled that inmates attempted to break out of the prisons over the weekend before they were repelled by other security agents with the support of the Armoured Personnel  Carrier (APC  Tank) stationed at the entrance of the prison premises.
