Benue Arrest 12 Almajiris, 8 at Large

Benue State Government has arrested twelve suspected Almajiris who came into the state from Kano after residents of the street expressed worries over strange faces doing menial jobs in the area.

The State Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, who led the state action committee COVID-19 to arrest them from their despicable situation, said so far twelve of them were arrested while the others are at large.

The state deputy governor lamented compromise on the part of the inter-state border task force for not doing their job to enforce restrictions at the border, stating that twelve of them will be isolated and their samples will be taken for a test to identify their health status.

A resident of the area around Wurukum, in Makurdi, who expressed concern about the young boys in their numbers coming out from one room, said he had to call the COVID-19 action committee to investigate them after the landlady informed that they arrive from Kano.

The state deputy governor, who decried the second case of COVID-19 in the state came from Kano, said the state government will not fold his hand and watch things happen with increasing infectious rate, just as he called for a total lockdown in most high-risk states.

Meanwhile, Engineer Abounu, who also doubles as chairman action committee on COVID-19, said the other eight if not more will be fished out.
