Actor Yomi Fabiyi challenges NDLEA

Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi has revealed that co-star, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe is not financially buoyant enough to pursue his case against the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Speaking in a recent interview, Yomi Fabiyi alleged that the NDLEA’s torture has affected Baba Suwe physically, mentally, socially, and economically.

According to Yomi Fabiyi, Baba Suwe had been battling issues ever since he regained freedom from the torture from the enforcement agency.

In Yomi Fabiyi’s words; “People are finding it difficult to call him for jobs. How did they want him to feed, a widower with over 5 children at hand.

“The torture has a great tone on him. If any other person can’t talk, forget who I am, it is my responsibility to speak out, not because I am forward, or I don’t fear death, but I did it because it could be you tomorrow and it could be me.

“Nigerians need to know that I am not a lunatic, so if I want to fight somebody with the name I have laboured to have, then NDLEA is the next I want to fight. If I was wrong the next thing NDLEA will do is to go to court and sue me for libel, but they know if they ever mention that they are in for a serious trouble.

“Baba Suwe deserves an apology from them; I am charging them to the court of conscience, the lawyer who was on the case died along the line. Baba Suwe has no money to pursue the case against NDLEA, he is helpless. I have done my bit, posterity is there to judge me.

“The truth remains that NDLEA melted a serious torture on Baba Suwe, and it is illegal, anti-social and unacceptable.” Yomi Fabiyi said.

Addressing the truth behind Baba Suwe’s alleged illness, he said: “I have a peculiar moral responsibility. This is because there is no dignity for me to have put out lie in this regard. I don’t even think with my moral standard, the first or the last thing I’m going to do is to have gone public to say he’s sick, when he is not sick.

“If Baba Suwe have not had that kind of conversation, I don’t think I will be so useless or so less busy to go public to put such sensitive bulletin out. The truth of the matter is this, when Baba Suwe was accused, incrassated and taken from one court to the other, and was being kept beyond normal constitutional right, how many people in the industry spoke on his behalf?

“If you were taking that way from your office, won’t your office stand for you? Would you be encouraged to continue in that office if they neglect you? So if they are killing Baba Suwe or fighting him… naturally do I need his consent before defending him? It is only in this country they will be raping someone or robbing someone in the other building, and one won’t be obliged to raise alarm because the person they are raping hasn’t granted the permission for one to raise alarm. We are very far from reality in this country.

“If they are killing or fighting Baba Suwe, of course I don’t need his permission to be in his defense? Somebody I regard as my father, he is actually the one who brought me to the industry.

“I will tell you confidently that Madam Saje was the first person to call me to break the news. She learnt that Baba Suwe could not walk, could not move. I left the location where I just arrived and I ensured I found him that night because the way I would go after him is different from the way any other person in the industry will go.

“Meeting him that night, we had a lengthy discussion and he explained a lot of things to me; indirectly Baba Suwe was accusing us of neglecting him. Then I have to like don’t worry, I will see what I can do. I informed some of my colleagues and they were like it’s a beautiful thing you want to do, but they turned it against me apparently.

The truth be told, I had never expected any antagonistic effort will come from that. One of the tragedies of life is to bring down what you have built, I just want to say same people from this industry who never cared about him, who would never even go and visit him despite his condition went to call him on the phone and manipulated the entire effort I did.

“They started telling him I was collecting donations, telling people to donate and swindling people at the detriment of his integrity. I must confess, that is devilish but for being who he is, he has learnt his lessons and has apologized to me, but I told him he doesn’t even need to apologise because he is a father to me.”
