Artists, others celebrate Lere Paimo @ 80

Upcoming artists in Nigeria have been advised to emulate the virtue and dedication of Chief Lere Paimo to the development of the film industry in Nigeria.


A cross-section of artists, cinematographer and other personalities who spoke at 80th birthday of the octogenarian in Ibadan the Oyo state capital lauded his contributions to the theatre and film industry in Nigeria.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the respondents described Chief Lere Paimo, popularly called Eda as a dedicated filmmaker whose contributions to the development of the industry and Yoruba language cannot be quantified.

Other personalities charged artists in the country to remain committed to the development of the film industry in Nigeria and refrain from giving undue attention to financial gain.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Muideen Bello said, "I want to thank God for the life of Chief Lere Paimo, he is a good example of an artist in Nigeria and has helped the industry a lot. I appealed to other artists to emulate him and make unity their watchword"

Elder Taye Ayorinde said, "he is a committed artist, I have directed many of his works. Lere Paimo has become an octogenarian; he is intelligent and has focus. I pray that God will continue to spare his life. He should continue to lead other artists on the right path."

Chief Abiodun Duro-Ladipoon his part said, Lere Paimo is a forthright filmmaker and has exhibit high level of influence in the industry, we thank god for sparing his life till today and pray for more years for him.)

They also appealed to Chief Lere Paimo not to give up on his dream for the development of the film industry but should continue to tutor upcoming artists on the need to remain committed to the profession.

On his part, the celebrant give thanks to God who spared his life despite series of life challenges while he expressed his determination to remain committed to the development of film industry in Nigeria.

He said, I want to thank the almighty God, who spared my life till today. In fact, I owe him all appreciation for whatever I have achieved. Am not yet fulfilled because my intention is to build a film village and am still working towards this dream. I know it may be difficult but with God, all things can be achieved)

The event was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, especially from the film industry while the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja 2 was represented by one of his chiefs.

The high point of the celebration was the presentation of an award to the celebrant and the cutting of the 80th birthday of Chief Lere Paimo.
