Olympic: NWF calls 25 lifters, six coaches to Camp

In a bid to ensure that Nigerian flag is hoisted among others at the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games, the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation  (NWF) has invited 25 lifters and 6 coaches to camp ahead of the final  of the African qualifiers holding in March in Nairobi, Kenya.

With camping expected to resume on 5th February at the New Castle Hotel in Owerri, the lucky invittees  include Rsaq Tanimono (56kg), King Kalu (56kg), Shola Fadodun (62kg), Akan Iyene Okon (69kg), David    Adeyemo (69kg), Felix Ekpo (77kg), Salisu Yinusa (77kg), Ismaila  Ajai (77kg), Abdulrahim  Salihu (85kg), Solomon  Irabor (85kg).Uloko Ben (94kg), Onyemobi Solomon (105kg), Ifeanyi  Ikwuagu (105KG), Curtis Onaghinor (105kg) and Akeem Tuani (105kg).

Invited female lifters include Agusta Nwokolo (48kg), Chinyere Fidelis (53kg), Rachel  Ekoshoria (58 kg), Margret Uwah (58kg), Obioma Okoli (63kg), Toyin Adesani (63kg), Ruth Kpokpoa (75kg),Gloria  Moses (75kg), Bilikisu Otunla (75kg) andMariam Usman (75kg).

Secretary General of the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation Uche Onwumeh who released the names, said the lifters whose invitation was based  their records were carefully picked in order to give Nigeria the needed result in Kenya.

President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation,Chimdi Ejiogu gave the technical committee members kudos for the calibre of lifters selected for the camping and tasked them to ensure that Nigeria was not disgraced in Kenya.

Though Ejiogu reasoned that Nigeria may not get as many slots as he would have loved to due to the limited slots given to Africa for this final qualifiers, he however warned them to be up and doing as Nigeria which had the reputation of being the best weightlifting country in Africa can not afford not to feature at the weightlifting event of the London 2012 summer Olympic Games.

The Coaches are Patrick Bassey(Chief Coach),Adokwuru Paul,Luke Ibe,Chris Nwadeh,Victoria Omoruyi and Tina Omogbai
