The continuous registration of eligible voters, which commenced across the 20 Local Government areas and in all the 23f wards across ogun state commenced on a shaky note as the exercise was marred by late arrival of adhoc staff of the independent National Electoral Commission and the materials for the exercise.

 

Galaxy News learnt that although indigenes of the state, who have not registered before now and those whose names were not found in the list of those that their permanent voters cards were produced turn out in large number but were discouraged by the slow pace of the exercise.

 

 

The first day of the continuous voter registration in Ogun started on a ‎shaky note, as the Independent National Electoral Commission seems to be
having logistic challenges, despite the high turn-out of prospective voters at different registration points in state.

Our correspondent, who monitored the exercise in Abeokuta, the state capital and the Ijebu axis of the state, reported that residents who have not
registered before thronged various venues of the registration exercise but they were delayed for hours due to limited numbers of capturing machines and limited number of staff.

Residents however appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, to do the needful to ensure a hitch free exercise and reposition its name and image before the 2015 elections

Reacting to some of the challenges raised by the people during the first day of the exercise, Director of Operations, Independent National Electoral Commission in Ogun State, Samuel Ogunjemilua urged people to be calm as the commission would deployed more hands to registration points in order to reduce the stress encountered by the people, noting that the exercise will last for six days

 

He appealed to those whose names appeared in the list pasted by the electoral body at different polling units across the state but could not located their cards not to panic stressing that they should not registered again as such would amount to double registration.

 

Meanwhile, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has appealed to indigenes of the state who have not registered to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the ongoing exercise saying, they can only chose credible leaders with their votes and those without voters cards cannot participate in the process.

Amosun called for massive orientation and enlightenment from all the necessary agencies in the state across the 20 local Government areas adding that the initial hiccups ‎facing the exercise would be overcome.
