South-West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  reveal their earnest interest in taken over the mantle of  national chairmanship post of the party.

The zone, which has earlier been eyeing the post of Senate President in the National Assembly, based its claim on the loss of its members seeking re-election into the Senate in the last general election.

In an open letter written to President Goodluck Jonathan, the South-West PDP Youth Advocacy Group said that the geopolitical zone should be fairly treated in the zoning of major party political offices.

According to the group, the South-West zone returned 61 per cent of its total votes to the PDP in the presidential election, adding the zone should be factored into the zoning of the party.

Said the group: “We deem it fit to passionately appeal to Your Excellency, as the leader of the party, to ensure that the South-West geopolitical zone is treated with fairness and equity in the zoning of major party political offices in the new dispensation.

“In particular, we appeal that the South-West be considered for the position of national chairman of the party, going by the fact that it has become practically evident that the Senate presidency will remain in the North,” it added.

The group said that the South-West would have demanded for the Senate presidency if were it not for the fact that there was no ranking senator re-elected on the PDP platform in the National Assembly elections.
