Amnesty: ex - militants meet senate president to prevail on NDDC programme
AN appeal has gone to the Senate president, Senator David Mark, to prevail on the Niger Delta Ministry to include former Niger Delta militants in the amnesty programme.
A statement signed by the leader of the group, Ramsey Umukoru, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Thursday, blamed the management of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for their non-inclusion in the amnesty programme.
He said they decided to appeal to the Senate president and the National Assembly because they believe as representatives of the people they would ensure that the issue was resolved amicably.
The statement read in part: “We hereby appeal to Senate president and the National Assembly because all efforts to get the Niger Delta Ministry for dialogue have been rebuffed by the ministry. We have written several letters to them but to no avail. We are confident that your personal handling of this matter will help the situation.
“The boys under us are threatening to go back to the creeks, thinking that we are deceiving them into believing that the government has not answered them.”
