Police vow to apprehend killers of farmer

As the investigation into the murdered farmer in the state continues, the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has vowed that the herdsmen who allegedly killed a farmer in Anaku, Ayamelum local government area of the state, will be found and brought to book.


The late farmer popularly Known as Atuanya was reportedly killed on his farm in the wake of the Yuletide celebration by Suspected Fulani herdsmen in Anyamelum.

The community had since called on the government to handle the incursion of the herdsmen, threatening to resort to self-defense if nothing was urgently done.

Addressing members of the community, the governor represented by the deputy governor, Nkem Okeke, reiterated his government’s commitment to the security of lives and properties of the citizens, assuring the family of the deceased of government’s assistance towards the burial.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Garba Umar, who said he had ordered the investigation into the matter, cautioned community members against taking laws into their own hands, assuring them that justice would be served.

Responding, the traditional ruler of Anaku, Igwe Obalum Offorkansi, thanked the government for heeding their call, cautioning his subjects, especially the youths, against any form of reprisal, even as he urged herdsmen to stop destroying farmers’ crops.
