Police parade chairman, 7 others

Operatives of the Bayelsa state police command have paraded a chairman and seven others for their alleged involvement in a robbery attack in the state.


The chairman who happens to be the chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANs), and at the same time a four hundred level student of the Niger Delta University at Amasoma in Bayelsa state was paraded with his alleged accomplices over allegations bothering on robbery and cultism.

The suspects were paraded alongside their victim who was attacked with a gun allegedly found in possession of the NANs executives on their way from an election at Otuoke, hometown of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Parading the suspects and recovered arms, the state police commissioner, Amba Asuquo spoke on the arrest and involvement of the NANs chairman.

Speaking on his involvement, the NANs chairman said he was a victim of circumstance as the victim narrated how he was robbed, while the police commissioner spoke on its collaboration with other security operatives to bring cultism and its affiliates to a stop in the state.

Meanwhile, the arrest of the students and other suspects by the police has led to an order by the state police commissioner to all formations, in ensuring that students traveling in groups are thoroughly searched within and outside the state borders.
