Jubilation in Ijebu over Ojude Oba festival

Massive jubilation was on Sunday, September 3, recorded in Ijebu land, as indigenes and their paramount ruler were in high spirit to celebrate the Ojude Oba festival.

‎The Ojude Oba carnival which has now become a tradition and custom among the Ijebus now defines their identity, heritage, values and social behaviors.

The Balogun and notable families are the recognized figures that ride horses to the Carnival in their entourage, displaying good horsemanship.

For Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, it was a time of thanks and gratitude to the Ijebu indigenes.

Basking in the euphoria of the moment ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun says he is grateful to God that has spared the life of the Awujale  and the paramount ruler of Ijebu land.

Many Ijebu indigenes and  guests say it is a unique carnival that  promotes the divine authority of the Awujale, one that has been passed from generation to the other.

Meanwhile, the Ojude Oba festival is usually led by the reigning Balogun of Ijebu-ode.

It signifies his dexterity as a warlord, who is ready to protect the Awujale in case of war against his constituted authority‎.
