Maritime workers shut Delta ports

The Delta state chapter of Maritime workers, under the Senior Staff Association of Communication (SSAC), and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), have shut the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Warri to protest a bill recently passed by the Senate.

The workers, armed with placards of different inscriptions, were protesting the harbour bill recently passed by the Nigerian senate, under the leadership of the Dr Bukola Saraki.

Displaying placards and chanting solidarity songs at the Delta ports entrance as early as 6am, Monday morning, July 10, the Union president and secretary expressed their views towards the bill.

On his part, the secretary of the Senior Staff Association, called on the federal government to revive the Delta ports.

t will be recalled that since the Senate passed the ports and Harbours bill in 2015, workers have been retrenched in Delta  ports while their entitlements are yet to be paid.
