Meet 'The Voice Nigeria' coaches

The second season of Nigeria’s flagship singing competition, “The Voice Nigeria“, which premieres on Sunday June 18 has retained Waje, Patoranking and Timi Dakolo as coaches while Yemi Alade replaces 2Baba, one of the coaches in the previous season.


Meet the four judges on 'The Voice Nigeria, starting with the new coach, Yemi Alade aka Mama Africa.

Yemi Alade

‘Mama Africa’ as she popularly called, is a native of Abia state and was born on the 31st of March, 1989.

Yemi is an award winning, Afro-pop singer and songwriter who rose to prominence after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009.

She enhanced her celebrity status with her debut effort, ‘Johnny’ which has since amassed nearly 70 Million views on YouTube.

She has two studio albums under her belt, ‘King of Queens’ and ‘Mama Africa’ and is signed to the Effyzzie Music Group.

Patoranking

Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is serving as a coach in the second season of 'The Voice Nigeria'. He was born on the 27th of May 1990, making him the youngest among the coaches.

Patoranking is a reggae dancehall singer and songwriter Ebonyi state, who started his musical career doing underground collaborations with artistes such as: Konga, Slam, X Project and Reggie Rockstone.

Patoranking started his performing arts career as a street jam and carnival dancer.

He describes his genre of music as a morally inclined variation of dancehall, with musical influences such as Buju Banton, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Majek Fashek, 2Face and many more.

WAJE

Aituaje Iruobe is better is known as WAJE, which is an acronym for "Words Aren’t Just Enough"

The singer was born on the 1st of September 1980 and she has been a member of the choir since her childhood.

She also received a degree in social work at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Waje focused on her musical works such as school concerts and fellowships. She listened and learned from her mentors such as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin to improve her music.

Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo is a Nigerian singer, born on the 20th of January 1981 in Accra, Ghana to a Nigerian father and a Ghanaian mother.

He emerged winner of the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007., with his victory, he bagged a recording contract with Sony BMG.

Timi who is outrightly known with his song 'Great Nation' has also dubbed Nigeria’s King Of Soul and has garnered various accolades in the process.
